An Important Message Regarding Special Interest Clubs from the President:
Recently the Board of Directors approved to change the Guidelines for the Mini Clubs. The new guidelines will be distributed to the chairs and co-chairs of all the Mini Clubs. I wanted to take this opportunity to explain the changes.
Throughout the history of the Newcomers Club, the only Mini Clubs to "spin off" were A&E groups. However, we are beginning to see a trend of other Mini Clubs choosing to spin off and this is a practice that the Board felt needed to be addressed. The changes to the Guidelines are in 2 areas. First, all groups, except A&E groups, will now be referred to as "Special Interests Groups" because they provide forums for the special intrests of our members. A&E groups will continue to be referred to as "Mini Clubs" as they truly are a "mini", more intimate version of Newcomers. Second, the only groups who shall spin off will be the A&E Mini Clubs. All other Special Interest Groups will continue on as a part of Newcomers. When individual members of these groups spin off from Newcomers, their spots in these groups will be available for newer members to take their place. This is how the Special Interests Groups (formerly known as Mini Clubs) have operated since the beginning of Newcomers and it is a flow that has worked for close to 40 years. The variety and number of Special Interests Groups are a big part of the attraction for new members to our organization. If Special Interests Groups were to continue the practice of spinning off, the needs of our existing and future members would not be met, membership could possibly start to diminish and the residual affect could be harmful to the future of the Newcomers Club. It is for this reason only that these changes to the guidelines have been made.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we move forward.
Sincerely,
Lisa Gandy, President
